In Fahrenheit, it was about 39 degrees here, while 69 degrees in Harrodsburg, KY (my hometown). Apparently, that is normal for Dublin. Gradually, it got better. I'm still not used to it, but it'll take time to adjust. Luckily, the places indoors have been heated, so we warm up quickly.
In other news, we went outside with the 4th Class girls (both classes). We did a Science "experiment" outside, where the girls had to measure the trees outside and figure out how old they are based on their measurements. The girls had a ton of fun. Once again, though, it was freezing! The first time I came back in, my fingers were starting to turn purple. Then, my CT wanted me to go out with the other 4th Class to teach the same lesson. It had warmed up a bit, but my finger were still cold. This time they were not purple, they were red. I should remember to wear gloves from now on. All-in-all, it was a day of being out in nature.
Here are some pictures from the two classes (with their faces blocked out for confidentiality purposes):
After school, Amber and I met Una in Dun Laoghaire for Starbucks. Then, we went for Nando's and Scrumdiddly's. In case you aren't aware, Nando's is a chicken place, and Scrumdiddly's is one of the best places for Irish ice cream in Dublin. It felt like we were out until super late, but we ended up getting home around 6:45 pm.
With the first school week down, I feel like we are adapting to Ireland well. The girls at school call me "Patience" instead of "Miss Cox," which I like better. I'm starting to learn all of their names quickly, even the ones that are hard to pronounce. The main topics that I have taught this week have been Science and History. I think these are going to be my core subjects, but they could change, especially when it comes to my lesson observations on Wednesdays.
Our host family is the BEST! They take care of us and make sure we're taken care. We have our breakfast, sack lunch, and dinner waiting for us every morning. They ask how our day was and how we're adjusting. They talk to us like we're adults. It's great!
Our Classport reps., who are mostly related, are amazing too! They give us tours, check on us, explain any confusion, and make sure we are adjusting too well. They even give us tips of where past Study Abroad students have been.
It's so weird to think that week 1 is over! I'm hoping that the rest of the time will drag out. I feel as though time is going way too quickly! Time either needs to slow down, or our time needs to be stretched out. I love everything about this place! 💕💕💕
